Homemade Eggnogg

“My Sister Debbie’s Recipe for Southern Custard Egg Nog”

3 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 c. sugar
dash of salt
2 1/2 c. milk
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. rum (optional)
1 c. whipped cream (optional)

Mix eggs, sugar, and salt in a heavy 2-quart saucepan or double boiler. Stir in the milk gradually. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture just coats a metal spoon, 15-20 minutes. Remove custard from heat and stir in the vanilla. Place saucepan in cold water until custard is cool (I actually pour it in the pitcher and put the pitcher in the sink because my pitcher is heavier and stays put in the water). Cover and refrigerate at least two hours. Just before serving, gently stir in the whipped cream and/or rum; sprinkle with nutmeg.

  • 6 half-ounce pieces of high quality white chocolate
  • 2 Tbs half and half
  • 1 envelope store bought hot chocolate mix
  • 1  tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups ice
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Place the white chocolate pieces and the half and half into a microwave safe bowl. Heat for 1 minutes, stopping to stir half way through. Continue to heat until melted and smooth.  Add the cocoa and sugar, stirring constantly until thoroughly blended. Remove from heat and slowly add 1/2 cup of the milk and stir until smooth. Cool to room temperature.
In a blender place the remaining cup of milk, the room temperature chocolate mixture, and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and the consistency of a frozen daiquiri. Pour into a cup and top with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

6 T. Unsweetened cocoa
6 T. Sugar
Pinch of Salt
2 1/2 cup Milk
2 1/2 cup Light Cream
1/2 t. Vanilla (or more)
Pinch of Cinnamon Powder (optional)
Whipped Cream
Orange Zest

Mix cocoa, salt, and sugar.

Add milk. Heat to dissolve.

Add light cream, cinnamon, vanilla. Heat to just under boiling.

Mix very well and pour into warm mug.

Top with whipped cream, cocoa powder, and fine orange zest.

Perfect Purple Punch


o 2 liters ginger ale or 2 liters carbonated lemon-lime beverage
o 1/2 gallon raspberry sherbet
o 1 (12 ounce) cans frozen raspberry-lemonade concentrate or 1 (12 ounce) cans frozen pink lemonade concentrate
o 4 cups water ( or more)
o 1 (12 ounce) bags frozen raspberries
o 3 lbs dry ice (optional)


1. Put dry ice chunk in the bottom of a punch bowl.
2. Sprinkle frozen raspberries over bottom of punch bowl.
3. Spoon in raspberry sherbet.
4. Mix water with frozen lemon-aid and pour over bottom of punch bowl.
5. Pour ginger-ale down the sides of the punch bowl.
6. Stir lightly.

PW’s Dulce de Leche coffee

* 4 cups Strongly Brewed Good Coffee
* 6 ounces, fluid Dulce De Leche (*see Note)
* 6 Tablespoons Kahlua, More If Preferred
* 1 cup Heavy Cream
* 2 Tablespoons Sugar
* 6 Tablespoons Chocolate, Grated

Preparation Instructions

Add Dulce de Leche to the very hot coffee; stir until completely dissolved and combined. Keep coffee hot.

Combine cream with sugar and whip until stiff.

Add 1 tablespoon Kahlua to each coffee cup. May add 1 1/2 if desired, or may add whiskey or brandy in addition.

Pour the coffee/dulce de leche mixture into each glass. Top with a heaping tablespoon whipped cream and grated chocolate of your choice.

Absolutely sinful!

*Dulce de Leche is sold in the Hispanic aisle of supermarkets, or in Hispanic specialty markets. It is sold in solid 15 ounce blocks, or in cans or bottles in more of a liquid form. You can also find recipes for making your own Dulce de Leche using sweetened condensed milk. Yum!

Mom’s Hot Cocoa Mix

Mom’s Hot Cocoa Mix
250 servings

11 cups low fat dry milk powder
1 8oz container of powdered non dairy creamer (coffeemate is best)
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
4 full cups of instant chocolate drink mix (like Nestle’s)
1/2 cup Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa

Combine in a large pot. whisk together. Store in airtight container.

The Ruby

The Ruby

1 shot vodka
1 shot triple sec
2 shots pomegranate juice
1 shot orange juice
squeeze of lime juice
fancy sugar to rim glass

Fill a shaker with 4 – 5 ice cubes and add vodka, triple sec, pomegranate juice, and orange juice. Shake vigorously to combine. Rub the rim of a martini glass with a lime wedge and dip in sugar. Pour drink in glass and add a squeeze of lime juice.

The juice of one whole orange
1 oz orange vodka
1 oz triple sec
splash of sprite
crushed ice

Pour all ingredients over the crushed ice in a tall glass, insert straw and enjoy!

Sandy’s Sangria

2/3 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup sugar
1 bottle (750 milliliters) dry red wine
Lemon and oranges slices, if desired (I put both plus apples)

I also added a can of Sprite. This is what my neighbor did. In Puerto Vallarta they also added the Sprite. I think next time I will use half can instead. I think I was able to taste the Sprite a little bit too much for my taste.

Add the lemon and orange juice with the sugar…mix it all until the sugar dissolves and then add the wine along with the fruit. Let it chill for a few hours and have fun drinking it.
